NUMEROLOGY AND THE TAROT

In the older Tarot decks, the twenty-two Major Arcana cards were the only care with symbolic drawings, the Court Cards depicted the Page, Knight, Queen and King of each suit, and the forty Pip cards merely showed the number of each card (the word "pip" refers to the markings that show the numerical order of the card). Because the original Tarot decks had only numerical markings on the Pip cards, the divinatory meanings of the Pips relied on the numerological symbolism of each card combined with the meaning attributed to the suit.  Therefore, the student of Tarot needs to know something about numerology to appreciate the symbolism of the Pip cards.

The key numbers used in numerology are the ten digits (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) and the master numbers (11 and 22).  These concepts are helpful in Tarot delineation and other forms of divination.  Becoming familiar with your life path and personal year numbers will give you further insight into the meanings of Pip cards of the Tarot.

Your Life Path, Birth Force or Destiny Number
The Life Path number is a number derived from your exact day, month and year of birth.  To find your life path number, add the numbers of your day, month and year of birth.  Take this sum and add the digits together until you get either a master number (11 or 22) or a single digit (0 through 9).  That is your life path or birth force number.  It has to do with your fundamental makeup and the major lessons you must learn in this lifetime.

For example say you were born 8th May 1981: 
add the date of birth: 8+5+1981=1994
add the digits in the sum: 1+9+9+4+23
as 23 is not a single digit or a master number add them together: 2+3+5

The lifepath or Destiny Number is 5.  Now calculate your own life path number following the same procedure.


The Personal Year Number
Calculating the personal year number is similar to calculating the life path number.  The only difference is that you use your birthdate in the current year instead of the actual year of birth.  The personal year number tells you the numerological significance of the current year in your life.

For example, say your were born 31st May 1951, and the current year now being 2011, to find your current personal year number add together the numbers in your current years birthdate as follows:


Add current year birth date: 31+5+2011 = 2047
Now add together these digits: 2+0+4+7 = 13
As 13 is not a master number or a single digit add them together: 1 + 3 = 4


This persons personal year is 4.  Now calculate your own life path number following the same procedure.
